The Humanities: Humanities-Classics

A HUMANITIES-CLASSICS MAJOR offers you the unique opportunity to pursue courses in Western and non-Western literatures and cultures, including those of Japan, China, the Middle East, and Africa. All periods of Western culture have relevant courses: ancient Greek and Roman, medieval, renaissance, early modern, and modern. The department is noted for its interdisciplinary, cross-cultural approach, and your courses are often combined with a study of visual and other arts. Courses on folklore and themes such as Love and Sexuality and Public and Private will expand your expertise in time and comparative literature. You can study Latin and Greek, whether you’re a beginner or an advanced student of these languages. In today’s rapidly shrinking world, understanding other cultures will give you an advantage in whatever occupation you choose to pursue.

Majors: Classics, Humanities, Humanities-Classics

Minors: Classics, Humanities

Beyond-the-classroom opportunities: Independent study, group tutorials, directed readings. Study abroad, field work in archaeological digs in Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Cyprus. Museum internships, New York Arts Program, The Philadelphia Center. Student board.
