The Humanities: Women’s and Gender Studies

T HE DEPARTMENT OF WOMEN’S AND GENDER STUDIES offers interdisciplinary, cross-cultural, and transnational courses that invite you to examine how an individual’s social experiences are shaped by history, culture, and institutions of gender/sex, socioeconomic class, race, sexuality, and nationality. You’ll take courses that include history, economics, literature, sociology/ anthropology, journalism, politics and government, and zoology. This major is often combined with another, allowing you to pursue a career in virtually any field.

Major and Minor: Women’s and Gender Studies

Beyond-the-classroom opportunities:Independent study, directed reading. The Women’s House, Peace and Justice House, Women’s Resource Center, Amnesty International, GLBT Task Force, PRIDE, Sisters United. The Philadelphia Center, study abroad, service projects. Student board.
