The Social Sciences: International Studies


A N INTERDISCIPLINARY PROGRAM, International Studies is an ideal major if you want to understand and participate in an increasingly complex and global society. You’ll take courses in economics, history, politics and government, sociology/anthropology, and other disciplines. You’ll develop a personal course of study that reflects your interests and goals, with a concentration in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, or general international studies. The international studies faculty also recommends that you study a foreign language so you can more fully understand the culture of the region in which you specialize.

Minor: International Studies

Beyond-the-classroom opportunities: Independent study, directed readings, study abroad (strongly recommended), internships, Wesleyan in Washington, The Philadelphia Center. On-campus speaker series that allows students to interact closely with world-renowned policy makers and scholars. Amnesty International, SANGAM (promotes South Asian culture), VIVA (promotes the cultures of Latin America), Rafiki Wa Afrika (promotes understanding of cultural, social and political issues in Africa and the African American community), Small Living Unit (SLU) housing, Sigma Iota Rho (international studies honorary society).
