The Social Sciences: Urban Studies

F YOU’RE LIKE MOST AMERICANS, you live in a city, perhaps a large urban center. If you’d enjoying studying the character and evolution of complex urban systems, the urban studies major may be for you. This multidisciplinary program will introduce you to urban planning and problem-solving, as well as to public policy formation. The program integrates urban-oriented materials from the social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and the arts. Urban studies is a flexible major; you may create your own sequence of courses in consultation with the program director. If you decide to major in urban studies, you also must complete a second major in a traditional course of study, such as sociology/anthropology, geography, or politics and government.
