Assistant Director of Admission/New Media Specialist

Ohio Wesleyan University (www.owu.edu) is a selective, private, undergraduate liberal arts, residential institution founded in 1842 and is located just 20 miles north of Columbus.

Position Overview:

This is a newly created position and requires a blend of talents in recruiting, marketing, supervising, administering and evaluating various social media platforms and their effects on the recruitment effort.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the development and administration of Admission blogs, forums, groups and chats
    • Develop and maintain the Office of Admission social media strategy for outreach to prospective students and other constituent groups; integrate strategy within overarching recruitment strategy
    • Work with the Office of Marketing and Communication to enhance shared content and uniform message consistent with University brand
    • Develop professional guidelines and performance standards for student employees assisting with social media
    • Supervise student e-comm team (blogs, chats, videos) for strategic and timely student-to-student communication; monitor student interaction and communication through Web venues
    • Maintain external postings, forums and “live person” requests
    • Act as administrator for social media software and platforms
  • Coordinate Web site content and applications
    • Evaluate and recommend effective utilization of emerging technologies in recruitment and yield of new students.
    • Review and update content on Admission Web sites
    • Ensure the admission Web site is exciting and interactive
    • Coordinate media efforts such as video, music downloads
    • Increase site traffic
    • Track analytics and understand Web viewing trends and timelines
    • Develop assessment instruments for statistical progress reports to analyze effectiveness of new media initiatives throughout the recruitment process
  • Coordinate electronic communication to prospective students and their families
    • Assist with coordinating the electronic communication strategy and timeline
    • Write queries and rules in database for merging of information
    • Design and send HTML e-mail
  • Serve as admission database administrator
    • Develop, implement and maintain database solutions for application and selection processes, mail merges, data uploads from outside sources, report writing, campus visit scheduling, and other recruitment-related processes
    • Oversee technology standards; includes training, development of procedures and protocol
    • Serve as liaison to Information Systems
  • Manage a recruitment territory
    • Develop and implement recruitment strategy for a small region, including travel in that region or elsewhere as needed
    • Manage the applicant pool from the region
    • Participate in admission decision process
    • Partner with the recruitment team to reach specific enrollment goals
    • Assess effectiveness of regional recruitment activities
    • Participate in on-campus visit programs, conduct interviews and information sessions

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience in new/electronic media and social networking required
  • Experience with database management and report writing preferred
  • Minimum 2 years experience in admission or related area; experience in marketing specifically to teen audience is preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong teamwork skills for providing solutions
  • Flexibility in a changing environment
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Willingness to travel by car and air, as needed
  • Willingness to work flexible and extra hours when needed; some evening and weekend hours required
  • Valid driver’s license required
