About Delaware and Central Ohio

This Just In!

Ohio Magazine has selected Delaware as one of Ohio’s Best Hometowns. The Best Hometown designation was based on quality of life attributes including community spirit, education, entertainment, health and safety, business environment, and culture and heritage. The City of Delaware is featured on the November cover of the magazine.

LOCATED IN ONE of the nation’s fastest-growing counties, Delaware, Ohio, still holds on to its friendly hometown feel. Towering maple trees, historic homes, and a mix of shops and restaurants make Delaware a pleasant place to visit and experience. And downtown Delaware is just steps from campus. Walking to everything is easy.

The city of  34,000 is the quintessential college town, but it is not an isolated rural community. The size of the city and its immediate access from campus make it a great place for students to find internships and opportunities for service close to home.

Once a year in the fall, all eyes are on Delaware. The city bursts at the seams with visitors. It’s time for one of the nation’s premier sports events: The Little Brown Jug. The “Jug” is the country’s most prestigious race for three-year-old pacers and the second leg of pacing’s Triple Crown. More people make the journey to this race than to any other harness race in the United States.

Ohio Wesleyan is an integral part of the Delaware community. Each year, the campus itself is host to more than 100 lectures and performances. From art openings at the Ross Museum to readings by renowned authors to Shakespeare at Chappelear Drama Center to the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra at Gray Chapel, there’s always something appealing to do at OWU.

Delaware is located a short 30 minutes from Columbus, the state capital and the 15th largest city in the United States. Home to the Columbus Symphony, BalletMet Columbus, Opera Columbus, the Columbus Museum of Art, the Center of Science & Industry (COSI), Nationwide Arena, and the world-renowned  Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Columbus offers a wealth of cultural, fine dining, and shopping experiences.

A charming small town. A nearby urban center. Those who choose Ohio Wesleyan have the best of both.
