FORTHCOMING PUBLICATION
The Centro de Estudios Martianos in Havana, Cuba, selected me to prepare
the critical edition of the writings of José Martí (1853-1895)
on Ralph Waldo Emerson. Obras Completas de José Martí,
Edición Crítica, the most comprehensive edition to
date, will consist of approximately forty volumes, and is being prepared
by an international group of specialists.

GRANTS
- Participated, along with a group of colleagues from Denison,
Kenyon, Wooster, Oberlin and OhioWesleyan, in a project which obtained
a Mellon Grant for the Ohio5 Colleges Consortium for Multimedia Technology
in Language Teaching ($750,000). This group has also prepared a companion
proposal for the Culpeper Foundation to fund multimedia laboratories for
the language departments of four of the colleges ($250,000).
- Selected in 1990 to be a member of a Cuban/U.S research group under
the auspices of the Latin American Studies Association and funded by the
Ford Foundation to develop the project "José Martí in
the USA". The group was a part of the Task Force for Scholarly Relations
with Cuba and brought together four specialists on José Martí
residing in the USA (Berkeley, University of Illinois, Purdue, Ohio Wesleyan)
and four from the Centro de Estudios Martianos (Havana, Cuba). The group
has met in Washington, Havana and Los Angeles. The eight studies prepared
will be published in book form by the Centro de Estudios Martianos in the
near future.
