Charles Wetherbee, concertmaster of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, is the Artistic Director of the festival.

Performing in this year’s festival are many of Columbus’ most talented and renowned musicians as well as celebrated guest artists from around the country. Naumburg Cello Competition winner Clancy Newman returns for the final two concerts of the season and cellist David Cho, from the Iris Chamber Orchestra, debuts on the opening concert. Local performers include Columbus Symphony Orchestra members Charles Wetherbee, violin & viola; Korine Fujiwara, violin & viola; John Ewing, violin; David Thomas, clarinet; and pianist Cameron Bennett, Professor of Piano at Ohio Wesleyan University.

The opening concert features members of the Carpe Diem String Quartet and Cameron Bennett, piano, as well as Columbus Symphony Principal clarinetist David Thomas. This opening concert - Straight A’s! -  will feature two incredible all-time chamber music favorites: Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet as well as Dvorak’s Piano Quintet.

The second week – Spellbound: Romance of Schubert & Brilliance of Virtuosity - features a program that will highlight works of Schubert and virtuoso violin repertoire.  Featured works include Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata, Rozsa’s Sonata for Two Violins, Moszkowski's Duo for Two Violins & Piano, and Sarasate’s Navarra.  Virtuoso performers are Charles Wetherbee and Korine Fujiwara on violin and viola, as well as pianist Cameron Bennett. The final week – The Golden Section - features cellist Clancy Newman as both performer and composer. The concert will present the World Premiere of Newman’s Duo for Violin and Cello as well as Newman being featured on Brahms’ Sonata in F major for Cello and Piano. Other works include Mozart’s Piano Quartet in G minor and the Handel/Halvorson Passacaglia. Brief commentary from the stage will explain and connect the works on each concert, and possibly give the audience a new insight into the music.

All of the Marble Cliff Chamber Players’ concerts will be performed free of charge, although donations are encouraged and will accepted at each concert venue. Tickets are not required. The Marble Cliff Series runs Sundays at 5:00 p.m., June 1, 8, and 15 at First Community Church in Upper Arlington (1320 Cambridge Blvd, Columbus OH 43212).
