Have You Been the Victim of a Crime?

We’re Here to Help

The Survivors of Crime Assistance Program (SOCAP) provides students with a centralized point person (the SOCAP Counselor/Advocate) to confidentially assist student survivors of crime with support and advocacy, regardless of when the crime occurred (i.e. survivor of child abuse).  The Counselor/Advocate is here to serve you and help you make informed decisions, not to pass judgement or investigate and is trained and experienced in therapeutic trauma intervention.  Student survivors may request one or more of the following services:

  • EMOTIONAL SUPPORT -  accompanying a student to meetings associated with the crime (Title IX office, legal and medical appointments, etc.)  as well as counseling support (on-going individual and group counseling)
  • LEGAL SUPPORT - education and assistance in navigating judicial and legal processes  and protections (Victims of Crime Compensation funds,  assistance with securing or completing legal paperwork, etc.)
  • SAFETY PLANNING - assessing for and assisting with establishing a safe environment for recovery
  • REFERRALS - provision of internal and external referrals for OWU students who have survived a crime

  • Sexual Assault
  • Intimate Partner Violence in Current or Previous Relationships
  • Robbery
  • Physical Assault
  • Stalking
  • Child Physical Abuse or Neglect (no matter the amount of time passed)
  • Witnessing Domestic Violence
  • Human Trafficking or Labor Trafficking
  • Kidnapping
  • Bullying (Cyber, Verbal, or Physical)
  • Car Accident Impacted by Another Driver DUI (driving under the influence)
