The Education Department at Ohio Wesleyan University seeks to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Elementary Education. This position combines a small, supportive, liberal arts community, with the opportunity to support innovative, forward-thinking elementary and inclusive elementary programs (PK-grade 5). The OWU Education Department is committed to preparing dedicated, justice-minded, and highly qualified teachers through our mission to prepare competent, committed, professional teachers for a diverse, democratic society.

The successful candidate will teach six units or the equivalent per year (3/3 teaching load); required responsibilities include Teaching for Equity and Social Justice. Priority will be given to applicants who can teach Educational Psychology, Elementary Field Practicum, and Elementary Student Teaching. Dependent upon the applicant’s areas of expertise, other courses may include Integrated Elementary Methods I and II, and Introduction to Early Childhood Education.

Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Elementary Education or a related field by the time of appointment, August 1, 2021; will consider applicants who have made substantial progress towards completion of a doctorate (A.B.D.).
  • Applicants should have a minimum of five (5) years of elementary public-school teaching.  
  • Experience with field/student teaching supervision and college-level teaching is desired, including evidence of an ability to coordinate with area schools to arrange field placements, and assess and report on program effectiveness.
  • Commitment to progressive, anti-racist education for all learners, particularly those from underrepresented groups.
  • Evidence of an existing research agenda is strongly preferred.
  • A desire to work in an environment that values collaboration, diversity, student learning, and respect for all people.
  • A willingness to learn about, engage in, and support accreditation and assessment requirements.
  • Appreciation for the unique opportunities that teaching in an undergraduate, liberal arts institution provides an intellectually engaged faculty member.
