Botany and Microbiology Lab Manager

The Department of Botany and Microbiology Lab Manager supports the instructional goals of the department by coordinating the preparation of materials and supplies for laboratory sections of microbiology and plant-focused classes and maintaining the smooth operation of departmental facilities. This includes the hiring, training, and supervision of student workers, set-up and tear-down of laboratory exercises in collaboration with instructors, purchase and maintenance of necessary supplies, materials, reagents, and stock cultures, and other related duties as needed.
This is a part-time, hourly, nine-month position, working approximately 800 hours annually.
Successful candidates must have significant experience with microbiological methods including aseptic technique, initiating and maintaining pure cultures of bacteria, and working with potentially pathogenic strains of bacteria in a teaching laboratory setting (BSL 2). Candidates should also have experience with the preparation of media for bacteria, cell culture, and plant tissue culture and be able to maintain inventories and stock orders as required with a high degree of independence.
