Ohio Wesleyan is actively monitoring the international outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and will proactively share updates with the campus community, parents, and others as warranted.

Guidelines for Returning to Campus

For everyone’s well-being, if you plan to return to campus after working or learning remotely and have traveled, you must complete the Campus Return Information Form two business days prior to your intended return. If you are approved to return, additional guidance will be provided to you. Students approved to live on campus and faculty and staff documented as essential employees do not need to complete this form unless you have traveled outside Ohio. Read more about our COVID-19 Wellness Protocol and, if needed, access our Self-Quarantine Notification Form.

Room and Board Refunds and Credits

Ohio Wesleyan will begin April 6 processing refunds (for seniors) and credits (for juniors, sophomores, and first-year students) for unused room and board resulting from COVID-19.

The process should take no more than three weeks with seniors receiving checks via mail and underclass students receiving credit for fall semester charges. Refund and credit amounts will be used to cover any monies due to the University before being disbursed.

Refund checks for seniors will include a $50 student-activity-fee refund from WCSA and, if applicable, a $40 yearbook fee from Senior Class Council.

WCSA has chosen to retain the full student activity fee from underclass students to support larger events when you return to campus. Unused dining dollars for underclass students, typically forfeited at the end of the year, will be carried over for next year.

To calculate your room and board refunds and credits, the University determined your total payment including any funds you provided through federal aid (grants and loans, including PLUS loans), state aid, outside scholarships, private loans, and cash payments.

Then we divided your total payment by your total OWU charges to determine the percentage of the charges that you paid (OWU-provided funds were not included as payment). Next, we multiplied the percentage you paid by the room and board charges you incurred.

To determine your room and board refunds and credits, we multiplied this total by the number of weeks you were off-campus – seven weeks (out of 15) for most of you.

We hope these refunds and credits help you and your family during these uncertain times.

Completing the 2020 Census

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, all students who had been living on campus during spring semester should be reported as living in Delaware, Ohio, on April 1, regardless of where they are living now.

For parents who have not completed the census yet, please do not include your student as living in your home. If you have already reported this, however, there is no need to make a change.

Students who have lived on campus this semester do not need to complete the census; Ohio Wesleyan will supply a list of residents with our report. Students who commute should be included with the household where they live.

Information about the 2020 Census can be found at 2020census.gov

2020 census data will be used to determine congressional representation, inform hundreds of billions in federal funding, and impact our communities for the next decade. Thank you for your help in ensuring it is filled out as recommended.
