Bishop ACCESS is a fee-based program that provides one-on-one academic coaching for students with executive function challenges including, but not limited to, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and Mental Health Disabilities. Most students who participate in Bishop ACCESS are registered with our Accessibility Services Office, but exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis. By participating in Bishop ACCESS, students will work to develop self-advocacy skills, build stronger learning strategies, and develop math, reading, and writing skills that are critical to college success. This program is most helpful to students who have a high level of internal motivation to succeed in college academics, but need support while developing their executive functioning skills.

I just want to request classroom or testing accommodations. Do I have to enroll in Bishop ACCESS to receive accommodations?

No. Accommodations are provided free of charge and are the right of all students who have properly documented, ADA-recognized disabilities. Bishop ACCESS is an optional fee-based program that provides additional academic support to students with documented disabilities and other executive functioning challenges.

Who is an Academic Coach?

An Academic coach is a trained professional who will work with you individually to help you achieve academic success, including developing your executive functioning skills and connecting with resources on campus.

What will I do when I meet with a coach?

You and your coach will meet individually each week. Together you will identify which barriers may impede your success while helping you develop the skills to address them. You and your coach will work on building skills that will help you be more independent both in college and beyond.

How will Bishop ACCESS help me?

Participation in Bishop ACCESS will help you to develop stronger executive functioning skills in order to promote your success in college and beyond. You will have the opportunity to enhance your decision-making skills and study strategies, learn to effectively utilize campus resources, and increase your self-advocacy and self-awareness.

When is the best time to apply?

You may submit the application as soon as you are admitted to Ohio Wesleyan.

How does Bishop ACCESS bill for program services?

The program fees will be applied to your Ohio Wesleyan Student Account and can be paid with your other University fees.
