Welcome to the OWU Spectrum Resource Center's list of off campus resources! Below, you'll be able to peruse a variety of different advocacy and support organizations for the LGBTQIA+ community that are centered away from Ohio Wesleyan's campus. Stonewall: Columbus

As Central Ohio's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer community center, Stonewall creates programming, provides resources, and sponsors events geared toward the LGBTQIA++ community while fighting for equality.

National LGBTQ Task Force

The National LGBTQ Task Force works to build a future where everyone is free to be themselves. The group breaks down barriers for LGBTQIA++ folks in a variety of areas including housing, healthcare, and basic human rights.

Human Rights Campaign

The Human Rights Campaign is a great source for keeping up on LGBTQIA++ related news and getting ideas on where to start your advocate journey. HRC also supports pro-LGBTQIA++ businesses and corporations and provides a list of those groups on their site.

AIDS Walk Ohio

AIDS Walk Ohio is an annual walk put on by Equitus Health in order to raise awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS services. Locations, dates, and sign up information are included in the about page linked below.

Kaleidoscope Youth Center

Kaleidoscope Youth Center is a central Ohio nonprofit dedicated to the creation of safe and empowering environments for LGBTQIA++ youth. KYC implements programming meant to enhance the lives of LGBTQIA++ youth and their allies.

GLAAD

Founded in 1985, GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Association Against Defamation) serves as an advocacy foundation, supporting LGBTQIA++ persons in the media and vocalizing inequality in visual representation.

The Center: New York

The Center is an LGBTQIA++ community center that offers health and wellness programs, cultural events, and wellness and family support services, among other things. This chapter of The Center works specifically with the LGBTQIA++ community in New York City.

Lambda Defense and Legal Education Fund

Lambda Legal works to see full recognition of the civil rights of the LGBTQIA++ community and those affected by HIV via public policy work, education, and litigation. Founded in 1973, they are the oldest nonprofit group of their kind.

The AIDS Memorial Quilt

Put on by the NAMES Project Foundation, The AIDS Memorial Quilt honors those who have passed away at the hands of HIV/AIDS. The original quilt resides in Washington D.C. and has grown to over 48,000 panels. Learn more at the link below!

PFLAG

Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, or PFLAG, creates a space for families and friends of LGBTQIA++ folks to learn and support those that they love. PFLAG supports equality through its mission of support, education, and advocacy.

lesbian.org is a blog run by Amy Goodloe documenting a variety of resources all about lesbians! The site covers everything from forums to coming out resources to teaching resources, everything you'd need to explore the lesbian identity.

Bisexual Resource Center

The Bisexual Resource Guide advocates for bisexual equality in the LGBTQIA++ community and in society at large, fighting against biphobia and raising awareness of the bisexual identity. The BRG also provides informational resources including physical health, mental health, and a variety of social groups.

The Advocate

The Advocate is a news source specifically concerned with LGBTQIA++ stories and events. They also publish a regular magazine, and up to date copies can be found in the Spectrum Resource Center office!

Outlook Ohio

Outlook Ohio is an LGBTQIA++ news site specific to events and issues in Ohio. They publish articles covering a range of topics, from political activity to style to sex and relationship health and advice. The Spectrum Resource Center also has archived issues of Outlook's magazine in the office.

Coming Out: Realizing Bisexuality in a Straight World

Coming Out: Realizing Bisexuality in a Straight World is the coming out story of Sierra Kempster, a blogger who runs the page lunamorena.net and chats about her life experiences there. This subsection of her website tells her identity discovery story and contains resources for those questioning themselves.

LGBTQ+ Substance Abuse Guide

The LGBTQ+ Substance Abuse Guide provides information about the intersection of LGBTQ+ persons and substance abuse, including the challenges faced and how to help someone facing addiction. The page also provides a list of resources for those facing the struggle of substance abuse. Substance abuse guides not pertaining to the LGBTQ+ community can also be found at the link below.

Alcohol Rehab Guide

The Alcohol Rehab Guide offers information and resources about the LGBTQ+ community and alcoholism. They hope to provide more awareness to this issue and are making it their mission to provide this tool to as many LGBTQ individuals as possible!
