Geology is the science of the Earth and Earth-like planets, focusing on the investigation and understanding of natural processes within and on the planet, and the materials, structure, and history of the planet.

About the Majors

Ohio Wesleyan's geology program gives you two degree options, so you can create a program that fits your interests and career goals.

  • The Bachelor of Science in Geology prepares students to do professional work or to attend graduate school in geology or related fields. Course requirements are based on graduate school and industry requirements, and conform to the American Institute of Professional Geologists recommendations for the undergraduate geology major.
  • The Bachelor of Arts in Geology is for students interested in geology as a course of study, but who do not intend to become professional geologists. The general geology major provides a strong base for subsequent study of fields such as law, economics, or environmental policy. Many general geology majors complete a second major or take a number of courses in the social sciences or other areas for excellent preparation for careers in a wide variety of areas, such as environmental law or legal, financial, or administrative positions in the mineral resource, energy, and environmental industries.
