A limited number of grants ($500 maximum for each) are available each summer and awards will be made payable directly to the intended program, not to the student.

Candidates for music merit scholarships must perform an on-campus audition (with the exception of students outside of the country who are unable to visit the campus) or submit an online audition between November through February of their senior year of high school. Audition dates can be obtained from the Music Department office. Students are also able to audition at Fall Open House, as well as other admission events. Special appointments can be made if no audition dates are possible to attend. In addition to the audition, students must complete the Music Scholarship Application. Music Merit Scholarships are awarded on the basis of performance ability, potential, and commitment to music as a profession, and are renewable for each of three additional years. Your on-campus audition serves two purposes: approval to enter a Bachelor of Music degree program and consideration for music merit scholarship. Scholarship amounts range from $1,000.00 to the equivalent of full tuition of the year of audition.

Students auditioning for music merit scholarships must apply for admission to Ohio Wesleyan, if they have not already done so, within three weeks from the date of the offer of a music merit scholarship. The awarding of a scholarship is contingent upon admission and subsequent enrollment at Ohio Wesleyan University.

It is expected that you will accept or reject the scholarship offer as soon as possible, but no later than May 1. According to the National Association of Music Schools Code of Ethics, the acceptance of a financial aid award (scholarship) by a candidate shall be a declaration to attend the institution making the award.

Renewal of the scholarship will be contingent upon applying for a yearly renewal through the Music Office no later than May 1 and maintaining a minimum music grade point average of 2.75 at the end of the freshman year and a 3.00 at the end of succeeding years.

The Financial Aid Office, in consultation with the Music Department, will administer the music merit scholarship. The scholarship will be credited as a tuition waiver if you are not receiving need-based aid. In the event that you qualify for need-based financial assistance in excess of the scholarship, the Financial Aid Office will determine your total financial aid package, incorporating the music merit scholarship, grants (if applicable), loan and work/study. Fifty percent of the scholarship will be given in each of the two semesters.
