Dr. Jacob Dike grew up in Melbourne, FL and spent the better part of his childhood living in the Sunshine State. While living in Tampa, FL., he attended the University of South Florida (USF) where he studied with renowned percussionist and professor Robert McCormick. At USF, he was involved in a number of chamber and large ensembles, including the McCormick Percussion Group. After USF, he moved to Cincinnati, OH., to study as a graduate student at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) with Percussion Group Cincinnati. While at CCM, he spent four years as a graduate assistant teaching music theory and percussion at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Dr. Dike has been teaching privately for the past 14 years and thoroughly enjoys working with students of all ages. He works actively as a freelance percussionist/conductor/pianist with CCM students, local high schools, and in various performances nationally. As a strong advocate for new music, he has commissioned, premiered, and recorded more than 40 new works for solo and chamber ensembles. He currently serves as Lecturer at the University of Cincinnati where he teaches music theory and directs the Cincinnati Youth Percussion Ensemble (CYPE), and as Part-Time Instructor of Percussion at Ohio Wesleyan University. Dr. Dike is also a member of the new music percussion trio 3(r) Three by Radio, who has performed both at PASIC and internationally.
Dr. Dike can be heard on a number of albums available through Ablaze Records, Ravello Records, and North / South Recordings. He is currently a member of the Percussive Arts Society.
He holds a B.M. from USF, and both M.M. and D.M.A. from CCM.
