Every year the department recognizes the significant contributions of students to our program:
The Richard H. Williamson Wesleyan Player Award is given to the outstanding senior in recognition of all phases of their work on campus: academic record, artistic creation, and service to the department. A plaque hangs in the department with the names of all past recipients engraved and the student is given a framed certificate, an appropriate book, and other gifts.
The Crosby Service Award is given to an upper class student in recognition of significant service to the department and its’ programs. This is named in honor of Dr. Robert R. Crosby, ’39, long-time professor of theatre at OWU and former chairperson of this department, who retired in 1983.
The James Scholarship Award is given in memory of Helen James, ‘29, to a rising junior who has made significant contributions to the performances in the department.
The Rodman Memorial Scholarship Award is in memory of Glen Stuart Rodman, OWU ’70, and is given annually to a theatre student who is committed to the theatre program in the context of a liberal arts education.
The Latham Prize(s) are given annually to rising juniors who have demonstrated significant creativity in the department programs. This is a cash award, which is received as a gift certificate to the bookstore for the purchase of supplies to carry out their creative work.
Excellence in Performance, Production, and Dance awards are made each spring to recognize the significant work of students and production groups from the current year.
Supporting Achievement and Newcomer awards are made each spring to those students who fit the category and have done interesting and significant work in the department.
