Our students routinely engage in internships and independent research as well as travel learning and semester abroad, focused on environment and sustainability.
We have two local credit-bearing internship providers (with more on the way):
ENVS 495/BOMI 495: Stratford Ecological Center Internship: Stratford Ecological Center offers a working organic 236-acre education and research farm and nature preserve located 5 miles south of Ohio Wesleyan. Gain practical experience in organic and sustainable agriculture, environmental education, local ecology, local food issues, land management, bee-keeping, non-profit management, and related areas.
ENVS 495/GEOG 495: Preservation Parks of Delaware County Internship: Preservation Parks is a county-wide park system, funded primarily through a voter-approved property tax levy, with a mission to “protect and conserve the natural and historic features of Delaware County and to inspire outdoor exploration and learning.” The Park District owns and operates nine parks, including a depression-era working farm, as well as paved multi-use trails. Gain practical knowledge in natural and cultural history, local ecology, natural resource management (wetland restoration, invasive species control, prescribed burning, reforestation), bioblitz planning and species inventory, volunteer workday planning, environmental education, multi-use trail planning, recycling and composting initiatives.
