DESCRIPTION:Ilya Kaminsky\, poet and author of &ldquo\;Deaf Republic&rdquo\; and &ldquo\;Dancing In Odessa\,&rdquo\; reads from his book &ldquo\;Deaf Republic\,&rdquo\; in the Benes Rooms of Hamilton-Williams Campus Center\, 40 Rowland Ave.\, Delaware. In its review of &ldquo\;Deaf Republic\,&rdquo\; Entertainment Weekly stated: &ldquo\;Kaminsky&rsquo\;s soulful new collection opens on an act of horrific violence before meditating on silence and deafness in times of political unrest. The language is exquisite\; the ethical questions Kaminsky poses are provocative.&rdquo\; Kamisky was born in Odessa\, formerly the Soviet Union\, and arrived in the United States with his family in 1993. &ldquo\;Deaf Republic&rdquo\; was recognized as The New York Times&rsquo\; Notable Book for 2019 and as the best book of 2019 by outlets including The Washington Post\, The Telegraph\, Publishers Weekly\, The Guardian\, Irish Times\, Vanity Fair\, Lithub\, and Library Journal. Artwork inspired by his book also is on display beginning Dec. 7 at OWU&rsquo\;s Richard M. Ross Art Museum (see listing above.) The reading\, sponsored by the Ross and the OWU Department of English\, is free. Learn more at www.owu.edu/English.
