How Can YOU Be An Inclusive Leader?

Everyone has a different background, and as leaders, we must reach out to those from all walks of life in order to advance our organizations. As our organizations grow, we may find that there are certain student groups we have not reached out to. There may be those with which we feel a little less comfortable engaging. However, including a diverse group of people is the best way to gain unique ideas and feedback, and expand our possibilities. Becoming more inclusive starts with choosing to be a learner and seeking a range of different perspectives. Set the vision of inclusivity and model the change you want to see. None of us is as great as all of us, and changing our thinking from “me” to “we” allows us to expand our idea of leadership. Taken from Terah "T.J." Stewart, Assistant Director of Intercultural Programming, Ohio State University at GO!OWU 213

THIS MONTH’S LEADER TIPS:

  • Share a vision: Spread the word about your goals and inspire others
  • Get others involved: Encourage others to share ideas, work with others, and jump in!
  • Evaluate: Look back and talk together about what works and what needs improvement
  • Set goals: Communicate as a team to set group goals. Think big!
