Anyone needing to operate University-owned or leased vehicles should email their request to the Public Safety Office (firstname.lastname@example.org). In addition, the process requires completion of the following items:
- MVR Release Form (PDF)
- MVR Consent Form (an e-vite will be sent to the applicant once the MVR Release Form is received in the Public Safety Office)
- Review of the online training modules sent by Safe Colleges
- Online quizzes associated with the training modules
- $10 application fee
When completing the MVR Consent Form, please be sure this page is filled out completely and signed. Residents of New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Washington State must complete additional forms, which may be obtained at the Public Safety Office.
There is a $10 application processing fee, which may be paid online. If you are driving for a specific University department, this fee may be charged to the department. Please ensure the department name and account number are listed on the MVR Release Form.
Once we have received your approved motor vehicle record check, you will receive an email providing access to the Safe Colleges training modules -- Defensive Driving and 15 Passenger Van Safety
Upon review of the training material and successful completion of the quizzes associated with each training module, you will be added to the OWU authorized driver list. Please ensure your information is up-to-date by providing current driver’s license information (e.g., expiration date) to the OWU Public Safety Department.
