You won’t find the option of living in a house on very many college campuses. Ohio Wesleyan University offers this unique opportunity to upper-level students who want to engage with students in a more intentional way. Each house serves a different purpose and group of students, so explore this page more to see if there is one that fits you!
Renovated in 2010 and dedicated in 2011, the Bigelow-Reed House is named after two OWU alumni: William F. Bigelow, Class of 1905, and John Reed, Hon. 2004.
The house, located at 23 Williams Drive, combines learning and living for students interested in Business Administration, Economics, Accounting, Finance, Entrepreneurship and International Business. The house is for sophomores, juniors, and seniors and contains a variety of living options, from single rooms to suites for five students. The house has a first-floor common area, a full kitchen, a teleconferencing room, parking, air conditioning, and an apartment for guests of the University.
With the motto “Where Passion Meets Opportunity,” this dedicated living space is a welcome addition to the OWU campus and curriculum.
The Butler A. Jones House of Black Culture is a residence that houses 10 students. The house is named for former sociology professor Butler A. Jones, known for his work with race relations and the Civil Rights Movement. The House of Black Culture has played a significant part in campus history and continues to serve as an important campus resource.
The Gillespie Honors House is a vibrant living and learning community that opened in the fall of 2017 with rooms for 27 honors students. With programming spaces for seminars or meetings, the Gillespie Honors House has a large, open floor plan with privacy doors to separate the living areas from the common area. It complements the first-year student honors community in Smith Hall in meeting the interests of OWU honors students.
Thomson Hall is the temporary home of Ohio Wesleyan’s Panhellenic House...the only known dwelling in the United States purposely created to provide women from multiple sororities with a collaborative Greek living and learning environment. Panhellenic House houses up to 22 women from each of the university’s National Panhellenic sororities. Members of Panhellenic House encourage growth, inspire intellectual curiosity, promote service, and support the success of organizations across the campus.
