Crider Lounge | Ham-Wil

Celebrating SWANA, Asian, and Pacific Islander Excellence in Research Bring your lunch and join us from 12:00-1:00 in the Crider Lounge to hear from Dr. Veda Kim (Assistant Professor of Sociology-Anthropology). Dr. Kim will be sharing a presentation on US Imperialism and the Division of Korea. Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate and honor the achievements of SWANA, Asian, and Pacific Islander faculty at OWU. Please RSVP here. Anyone with some knowledge of the Korean War may understand that the US was one of the prominent actors in the war process. Some may perceive the US as the savior of southern Koreans from the threats posed by North Korea, both then and now. In this popular narrative, North Korea is portrayed as the "bad guy" responsible for dividing the peninsula. This lecture aims to challenge this ideology by emphasizing why the US—as an empire-state—has everything to do with the division of Korea. The lecture will also delve into how the US remains a major hindrance to reunification, alongside the northern regime.
