“Parameter Estimation for a Large Model of Yeast Cell Polarization”

Cell polarization is fundamental to vital processes like cell division, migration, and differentiation. The polarization process can be modeled by a large system of partial differential equations, with many parameters such as reaction rates and diffusion coefficients. The current model has 35 parameters, many of which are unknown and can be only crudely estimated. We would like to estimate the parameter values based on experimental data, but in such a large parameter space this task becomes computationally difficult. In this talk, I will present a method for parameter estimation that reduces the computational cost so that parameter estimation becomes plausible.
