How do I register to return for the commencement ceremony?

You must register to participate in commencement activities before April 23, 2021. Please look for an email from classof2020@owu.edu with registration information. If you have not received this email, and desire to register to walk at the May 29, 2021, Commencement Ceremony, please email classof2020@owu.edu.

Will my registered guests need tickets for the commencement ceremony?

Yes. When you register to participate in commencement activities your named guests will be on a list. As of now, we plan to mail guest tickets to the current address you include on the registration form.

Is there any way to secure more tickets for my guests?

Based on new guidelines from local public health officials, each graduate now is able to invite up to four guests. (We will continue to consult with the Delaware Public Health District in case this guideline is changed, and we will share any updates as quickly as possible.) If you have registered previously and wish to add additional guests, please email your name, cell phone number, and complete guest list (including first and last names) to your class email account — classof2021@owu.edu or classof2020@owu.edubefore April 23. If you have not registered previously please complete the Commencement Participation Form and include your guest information. (Check your email for a link to the form.)

Can I ask other participants for unused tickets?

Because we are required to have the names of all guests for contact-tracing purposes, we cannot permit graduates with unused tickets to share those with other graduates. We also will be webstreaming your special day live so that all of your family and friends are able to watch you complete your Ohio Wesleyan journey.

What safety measures will be taken? Do I/my guests have to be vaccinated?

OWU has decided to host commencement ceremonies in Selby Stadium to allow for additional seating and physically distanced seating.

We will not require participants or guests to be vaccinated to attend the ceremony, but we will require all COVID-19 safety protocols to be followed.

How do I get my cap and gown?

Graduates who did not pick up their cap and gown last year can get them from the Bookstore when they arrive on campus. We will have a check-in table on commencement day if you cannot pick up your materials before the ceremony.

Please bring your cap and gown back to campus with you if you picked it up. We will not have extras for you.

If you did not pay senior dues and did not pick up a cap and gown, your cap and gown will cost $40. Contact the OWU Campus Store for more information about purchasing them.

How do I get my senior swag that I didn’t get in spring 2020?

We will have these items available at the same check-in table where caps and gowns will be available.

What if I can’t get back to campus? Will I receive my diploma cover and other items?

We will have a registration form for you to request your diploma cover and any missing items (e.g., senior sweatshirts).

Will we get a “senior week” or other senior events?

We cannot plan other events during the May 29, 2021, weekend due to current COVID-19 safety protocols. We know this is disappointing, but don’t worry, your senior dues will be used for 2020 reunion events when we are able to resume those activities.

Will there be accommodations for overnight guests?

Due to the academic calendar, there will not be enough time for the University to “turn over” rooms to allow for 2020 graduates to stay on-campus. Please visit the Delaware County Visitors Bureau website for full information about local amenities.

Is there a rain location for the commencement ceremony?

No, the ceremony will stay in Selby Stadium rain or shine. If the ceremony needs to be delayed for severe weather, we will post a note at the top of every page of our website and send a campus-wide email, and utilize social media to communicate details.

Where will people be able to park?

Parking will be free in all OWU parking lots around campus.  Selby Stadium parking may be reserved for guests needing special assistance.

What happens in the event of an emergency? Where can people get first aid?

OWU will have a first aid station located near Selby Stadium.

Are animals welcome?

Only service dogs for people with a disability are allowed. Pets are important family members but for their safety and the safety and comfort of others, please keep them at home.

Will there be special accommodations for individuals with a disability?

The commencement registration form provides space to indicate special accommodations for any guests or attendees. OWU does not provide wheelchairs but transportation from the disability parking lot spaces to the seating area is available. A sign language interpreter will also be present for the hearing impaired. If you need to change your initial request please call 740-368-2222.
