What is BibliU's Equitable Access (EA) program?

With BibliU's Equitable Access (EA), you get instant access to your required digital course materials (eBooks, embedded codes, etc.) directly through Blackboard from day one of class. (If your professors require print materials instead, you'll be able to purchase them separately at the OWU Campus Store or source them on your own.)

This digital approach eliminates the need to search for and purchase course materials individually, providing a seamless and cost-effective solution to ensure you are well-equipped for academic success from the outset.

NOTE: Every semester, all registered students are automatically enrolled in the EA program. If you wish to opt out, you must do so each semester prior to the add/drop deadline.

What does the book charge cover?

For fall 2025, the flat rate of $68 per required digital item, per course, gives you:

  • Instant access to all required digital textbooks and course materials through Blackboard—Ohio Wesleyan's learning management system.
  • Fully accessible eBooks with built-in tools such as text-to-speech, search, highlight, note-taking, and citation export—helpful for all learners, including those with accommodations.
  • Courseware and embedded codes if applicable, including access to platforms such as Pearson, McGraw-Hill, Cengage, or Wiley.
  • Automatic delivery before the first day of class—no extra steps required. And you get an automatic return at the end of each semester, too.
  • Significant cost savings, with most digital materials priced at about half the cost of traditional printed textbooks.

Why should I pay this?

For many students, EA offers significant value and convenience. It ensures that all digital course materials, including the correct editions, are delivered on or before the first day of class, saving you time and reducing stress. If you prefer to self-source your course materials, you can opt out of the program prior to each semester's add/drop deadline. While we believe the peace of mind that comes with having everything you need, right when you need it, is invaluable, the decision is ultimately yours.

If you use the Equitable Access program, you will pay $68 per digital item, per course—including textbooks, courseware, and access codes. Materials are delivered through Blackboard by the first day of class, so you'll always have the correct items and editions assigned by your professor. Because everything is digital, there's nothing to carry—your materials are available online at any time, from anywhere. The cost will be included on each semester's billing statement and is typically up to 50% less than buying printed textbooks.

How do I know if my course is part of Equitable Access (EA)?

Most required digital textbooks are covered under EA, but some courses still may require you to purchase a separate printed workbook or lab manual.

The best way to check whether your course is included is by visiting the OWU Campus Store website. Under the Course Materials > Order Textbooks section, EA participation will be clearly marked by class.

You'll also receive an email from the Campus Store if any of your courses are part of EA.

How do I opt-out, if that's the right choice for me?

All students are automatically enrolled in the Equitable Access (EA) program each semester. If you want to stay enrolled, no action is needed.

If you choose to opt out, you'll use this link: https://reader.bibliu.com/. The first time you visit the site, start by choosing Ohio Wesleyan from BibliU's drop-down list of schools. Then log in using your OWU user name and password. If you are using your smartphone, you will need to download the BibliU app.

Please review your required materials before deciding whether to participate in the Equitable Access program. Opting out will remove all EA digital materials for all of your classes; you are not able to purchase some digital materials via EA, but not others. If you opt out, you will be responsible for purchasing all required materials on your own.

For more information, visit BibliU's "How does Opt Out work" support page.

If I opt out or change classes, when will my bill be adjusted?

If you opt out of the Equitable Access program, or later opt back in, the course materials fee on your bill should be adjusted the following business day.

If you change classes, your course materials fee won't be adjusted until after the relevant add/drop date. (This protocol prevents the confusion of EA charges being added and removed repeatedly as you finalize each semester's courses.)

What happens if I add or drop a course?

If you add a course, access to the required digital materials will be automatically provided through Blackboard—usually within 24 hours. A charge of $68 per item, per course will be added to your account.

If you drop a course, you'll automatically lose access to the materials for that course. As long as you drop the course before the add/drop deadline, you will be refunded the $68 per item cost. Be sure to check the academic calendar or contact the Campus Store for specific deadlines.

What if my class continues next semester?

You'll receive continued access to the required digital materials for multi-term or continuation courses, as long as you're enrolled and the materials are still required for the next term. The $68 per item, per course fee will be applicable for each semester.

Can I keep course materials once I have completed a course?

EA provides digital-only course materials with access typically ending once a course is completed. If you need copies to keep, you are invited to work with OWU Campus Store staff or source them on your own.

Are EA course materials accessible to students with accommodations?

BibliU's Equitable Access platform is Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA compliant and works seamlessly with common assistive technologies, such as screen readers and keyboard navigation tools. It includes features such as:

  • Adjustable font sizes and high-contrast mode
  • Screen reader compatibility
  • Keyboard navigation
  • Text-to-speech and read-aloud options
  • Offline access for flexibility
  • Support for mobile, tablet, and desktop devices

If you need course materials in an alternative format, BibliU will work with OWU's Accessibility Services team to ensure timely access. Every effort is made to provide equitable, day-one access to required course content -- so all students can start the term on equal footing.

How do I pay for my digital courseware under the EA program?

The EA cost ($68 per digital item, per course) will be added to your bill as a digital course materials fee each semester.
