In celebration of the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Delaware County Martin Luther King Day Committee and Ohio Wesleyan University hosted the 31st annual community MLK Day celebration, "Embracing Change," on Jan. 15, 2024.
The commemoration featured keynote speaker Dr. Hasan Jeffries, author of "Bloody Lowndes: Civil Rights and Black Power in Alabama's Black Belt," and emcee Tracy Townsend, a journalist and anchor for WBNS-10TV (CBS) in Columbus.
The noon event also included a performance by the Columbus Adventist Academy Children's Choir, directed by Tamaria Kulameka, and a spoken word presentation by Ohio Wesleyan senior Tymir Hill of Philadelphia.
The celebration raises funds each year for the Delaware County Martin Luther King Scholarship Program, which has awarded over $34,000 in scholarships to Delaware County students since 1990.
