Job Description

AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs that improve lives and fosters civic engagement within communities. Members commit their time to address critical community needs like increasing academic achievement, mentoring youth, and more. Members receive a modest stipend of about $1,100 a month. Through their service, members also gain leadership and professional experience.

Ohio College Guides is an AmeriCorps program hosted by nine sites across Ohio, including IKIC. The program provides near-peer mentors in the school districts that need them the most. The goal of Ohio College Guides is to ensure that typically under-served students receive the necessary information and resources to make educated decisions about their futures.

Serving with I Know I Can in Columbus, Ohio, the AmeriCorps Ohio College Guide positions include three service tracks: Early Awareness (grades 6-8), High School (grades 9-10), and College Retention.

In collaboration with Columbus City Schools counselors, College Guides utilize an online college planning tool to develop and deliver classroom-based workshops for middle and high school students. They support college and career readiness through one-on-one advising and evening programs. College Guides also assist students with all aspects of their college search, admission, and financial aid process. Additionally, College Guides track interactions with students and use data to assess the success of all activities.
