An Oh-Wooo Occasion!
Ohio Wesleyan Celebrates Homecoming & Family Weekend 2025
It was a great weekend to be a Bishop.
More than 700 alumni, families, and friends joined OWU students, faculty, and staff Sept. 19-20 to celebrate Ohio Wesleyan University's Homecoming & Family Weekend 2025.
Friendship, Tradition, Community
Festivities began Sept. 18 with the OWU Connection Conference, which provides an opportunity for every Ohio Wesleyan student to share their signature Connection experience with the university community and explore the OWU Connection through the reflection and storytelling of their classmates. An Alumni Board reception closed the day, offering a fitting start to the weekend's events.
Sept. 19 teed off with the Team OWU Golf Outing and continued into the evening as alumni reconnected with favorite professors and staff at Pints with Profs. The night concluded with BishopFest, a Tri Delta gathering, a Swimming and Diving reception, and a vocal performance by the NOVA Ensemble—all capturing the spirit of friendship, tradition, and the Bishop community.
Honoring Athletes
Sept. 20's celebrations included the "W" Association Athletics Hall of Fame welcoming new inductees: Colton Bloecher '15 (Men's Soccer), Jeremy Carpenter '00 (Track & Field), Kevin Hinkle '94 (Men's Tennis), the late Chuck Mears '32 (Track & Field), Katie Reid '15 (Track & Field and Cross Country), and Julia Fouts Swayne '08 (Women's Lacrosse).
Special honors included the George Gauthier Award, presented to John Guy '60, and the Robert Strimer Award, presented to Tom Schott '60 and Jeff Long '82. The 1970–1971 Wrestling team earned this year's Team of Distinction honor.
Other festivities included a Family Mixer, Alpha Sigma Phi "Sig Bust," a Volleyball Reunion and Ring Ceremony, a Kappa Kappa Gamma gathering, and an all-fan tailgate. Another Saturday highlight was the Parade of Bishops, with alumni, families, and friends processing from the JAYwalk to Selby Stadium led by the OWU Marching Band, joined by cheerleaders, football players, and alumni from across the decades.
Before kickoff, fans enjoyed the Bishop Tailgate with food trucks, music, and affinity huddles, all leading up to the evening's finale as the Battling Bishops football team took on the Wittenberg Tigers.
Greek Life Greatness
Homecoming & Family Weekend also honored Fraternity & Sorority Life, presenting the David Hamilton Smith Greek Alumni Awards to Doreen DeLaney Crawley '91, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and Larry Spees '60, Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity.
The weekend also marked milestone celebrations, including the 100th anniversaries of Kappa Kappa Gamma and Delta Delta Delta.
