Ohio Wesleyan has joined with Case Western Reserve University to create an early admission pathway for OWU students seeking to earn a Master of Finance degree from CWRU’s renowned Weatherhead School of Management.

Ohio Wesleyan students accepted into the Weatherhead School will receive a $10,000 scholarship for their Master of Finance program, a STEM degree, and have the potential to receive additional merit scholarships. Application fees will be waived for OWU students.

Outstanding Opportunities

The Weatherhead School enables OWU graduates to make valuable contributions in the areas of corporate finance, financial modeling, valuation, derivatives, risk management, and financial econometrics. Its Master of Finance program allows students to select from four tracks that go beyond their core requirements to help them focus on their career goals. The tracks are:

  • Financial Big Data Analytics (STEM eligible)
  • Corporate Financial Analytics (STEM eligible)
  • Risk Management Analytics (STEM eligible)
  • Corporate Finance

In addition, the Weatherhead School offers a course in artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology. The course places an emphasis not only on understanding the theoretical underpinnings of various AI models, but also on building, evaluating, and critiquing AI models as they apply to the finance industry.

Case Western Reserve is part of the CFA Institute University Recognition Program, with the Weatherhead School’s Master of Finance program acknowledged as incorporating at least 70 percent of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) and emphasizing the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. Graduates are well-positioned to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, widely regarded as the most respected investment credential in the world. Ohio Wesleyan’s Finance Economics program also is part of the CFA Institute University Recognition program.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for early decision acceptance into the Weatherhead School, Ohio Wesleyan students must have earned a grade point average of 3.2 or higher and completed specific OWU economics, business, and accounting classes with at least a B in each course.

In addition, the students typically must take either the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) test, with a score at least in the 75th percentile preferred for admission to the highly ranked Weatherhead School. GMAT/GRE is not required to apply for Fall 2021.

To enroll officially in the Master of Finance program, OWU students must complete all of their coursework at Ohio Wesleyan with a final grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Ohio Wesleyan’s partnership with Case Western Reserve provides no guarantee of admission. Students must meet the entry requirements of the Weatherhead School master’s program.
