You and your small group will spend time working on service projects serving different populations in Columbus, Ohio. We are working to secure our 2018 service sights. Last year students' service opportunities included working with Habitat for Humanity, learning about food justice issues, and serving the homeless During the evenings you can look forward to meals with your new friends, games, small group conversations, laughter, and reflections on the day’s experiences! You will return to campus and spend two days before classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 22, meeting and connecting with your fellow classmates, faculty, and staff.

Day One (Aug 16)

  • 8 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.: Check-in to residence hall
  • 4:30 p.m.: Convocation program with students and parents/family
  • 6:00 p.m.: Celebratory dinner for new students and parents/family on the JAY Walk
  • Time with your Camp Leaders and classmates
  • Spend the night in residence hall rooms

  • Service Activities (TBD, below are the community partners from the 2017 program):
    • Habitat for Humanity: Partner with our local Habitat chapter to work on a home build or help out in their ReStore facility.
    • Food Justice: Work in an urban garden, visit non-profit, Local Matters, and learn about hunger issues in the city.
    • Serving the Homeless Community: Serve in a food pantry, help out at an after-school program, and learn about challenges facing the homeless population.
