Beeghly Library

A New Chapter in OWU Snapchat: The Beeghly Library Edition

For Ohio Wesleyan students, Beeghly Library is more than just a place to study before finals: It is a vibrant place full of various resources, including dedicated librarians.

Jillian Maruskin, public services librarian and interlibrary loan manager, and Sarah Lucas ’16, an OWU Libraries employee, will take over the “ohiowesleyan” Snapchat account during the week of June 13 to share the library’s inner workings.

In addition to their many books, collections, archives, and study environments, Maruskin says, OWU’s libraries offer resources “beyond school stuff.” Many resources also help students unwind. “Naps, chess and checkers, coloring, DVDs from the media center, events like Culture Cafe and Live @ The Library, and so much more,” says Maruskin.

Maruskin, first-year experience librarian and UC 160 instructor, earned her bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University and her Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) in Library Science from Kent State University. She loves her students and strives to help them succeed. “Helping them while they're here and watching them grow after they've left are some of the true joys of my life,” she says.

Lucas, who is working on special projects this summer at Beeghly, plans to stay Columbus area, continuing to work in the library science field. Lucas was highly involved in her undergraduate career at Ohio Wesleyan, serving as a moderator of Citizens of the World Small Living Unit, an Orientation Leader, and a History Student Board member. She was also involved with Phi Alpha Theta, Phi Beta Kappa, and worked as an OWU Radio DJ.

A history and ancient studies major and classics minor, Lucas says, “The community here has pushed me to grow in so many ways and I am a better person for attending OWU.”

Her favorite professor is Dr. Mark Gingerich in the History Department. “His classes have blown my mind,” she says. “He's made me see the world in new ways, and he's also really funny.”

Lucas offers sound advice to the incoming Class of 2020: “Get to know your professors. They will be your mentors and help you grow.”

Maruskin adds, “Self-care is so important. Be sure to take time out of every day to rest, eat well, be with people you love, exercise, or whatever else works for you.”

Maruskin, who describes herself as compassionate, enthusiastic, and sincere, is looking forward to a Snapchat feature on the library. “Students who work with our librarians see the quality of their work increase,” she says.
