Earthdance Ohio Holds 7th Annual Event Sept. 19, 2015

Earthdance, the global peace party, returns to Delaware from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, in the Benes Rooms of Ohio Wesleyan University’s Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware.

Earthdance is the world’s largest and longest running music and dance event for peace. The annual Earthdance Global Peace Party, founded in 1997, has presented more than 600 music and dance events in 60+ countries over 19 years, featuring thousands of DJs and artists. Earthdance 2014 included 51 events, held over 3 days, in 24 countries. While this is the seventh annual EarthDance at Ohio Wesleyan, it is the first after changing its name from Earthdance Delaware to Earthdance Ohio.

This year’s celebration will be familiar to folks who have attended in the past. Several OWU student groups will be performing: the Dance Composition class, OWU Rhythms Tap Club, Terpsicorps, and members of the annual Orchesis production. Bellydance Columbus, Israeli folk dances, and Francine Butler from Rutherford B. Hayes High School also will return. New this year, OWU chemistry professor Dave Lever will be the DJ. All Earthdance events take part in a synchronized global link-up and Prayer for Peace, in alignment with the annual United Nations Peace Day.

Earthdance events also promote and financially benefit local charities working in the areas of peace, environment, and social justice. In the spirit of this year’s theme, “Awakening,” Green Columbus has been chosen as the beneficiary of this event.

Green Columbus is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable living in central Ohio and globally. It provides forums, raises awareness, and encourages action. It grew from the success of Columbus Green Drinks and Earth Day 2007: A Year in a Day, the first citywide Earth Day celebration in over a decade. Its intention is to be a “do tank,” opposed to a think tank, initiating and conducting programs that will have a positive impact on the natural environment in central Ohio and serve as an example to others around the world.

Give Peace a Dance! People of all ages are invited to see, to learn, and to dance. The event will be both performance and participation. Refreshments will be provided. A suggested donation of $5 per person may be given at the door, and half of all proceeds will benefit Green Columbus.

Earthdance Ohio is a project of the Leslie Center for Peace and Justice in Ohio Wesleyan’s Office of the University Chaplain. It is sponsored by the Delaware Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, and is made possible by the gifts of many volunteers. For more information, see www.earthdanceohio.org or contact:
