Ohio Wesleyan University Announces Its Spring 2021 Arts Calendar
DELAWARE, Ohio – Ohio Wesleyan University invites the community to enjoy its spring concerts, recitals, plays, and art exhibitions. Events may change at any time, so please view each department’s webpage at owu.edu for the latest information.

The following concerts currently are scheduled to be performed without a live audience.
- 3 p.m. March 21 – Ohio Wesleyan Symphonic Wind Ensemble concert, conducted by faculty member Richard Edwards. The performance will be streamed live and archived online at owu.edu/stream. Learn more at owu.edu/music.

- 7 p.m. May 8 – “Astronomer Dreaming,” presented by the Ohio Wesleyan Department of Music in conjunction with the Department of Theatre & Dance. This unique and collaborative theatre and music performance will be directed by faculty member Jason Hiester. The performance will be streamed live and archived online at owu.edu/stream. - 8 p.m. March 13 – “Scenes! 2021” showcasing the work of students in the directing class who, for their first main class project, each will direct a brief scene. Their scenes will feature the acting talents of first-year and new transfer students. The performance may contain adult themes and language. Admission is free, and seating will be limited. Tickets will not be issued. The event will be held on the Main Stage of Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave., Delaware, and will follow the latest coronavirus public health guidelines. - 7 p.m. April 23, 24, and 30, and May 1, and 2 p.m. May 2 – “Twelfth Night, 2020,” a modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic that refocuses the circumstances and characters on contemporary issues. Adapted and directed by OWU instructor and 2005 graduate Bradford Sadler, this adaptation focuses on LGBTQIA+ representation and the role of protest in expressing the voice of a community. The production will work to connect with and support local community organizations, and will collect donations in support of Black Lives Matter. All performances are expected to be held outdoors in the amphitheater located beside Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware, and will follow the latest coronavirus public health guidelines. - 8 p.m. May 14 – “One Acts 2021” featuring the work of students from Ohio Wesleyan’s fall playwriting class and spring directing class. Original scripts written by student-playwrights will be directed by student-directors for their final class project and feature student-performers. Richard M. Ross Art Museum
- Feb. 3-April 8 – Ohio Wesleyan’s Richard M. Ross Art Museum will feature two exhibits connected by the theme of “Cityscape/Landscape.”
The museum’s Kuhlman Gallery will feature “Pattern Drift: Cityscape,” a mid-career survey of art by Philadelphia-based printmaker Amze Emmons, a 1996 Ohio Wesleyan graduate and associate professor at Tyler School of Art at Temple University. The exhibition includes selections from three main bodies of work in which the city serves as background and context for the art. Emmons’ images evoke a sense of magical realism inspired by mechanical illustration, cartoon language, information graphics, and newspaper journalism. Learn more at www.amzeemmons.com.
The museum’s West Gallery will feature “Landscape through the Lens: Responses to William Henry Jackson.” The exhibit brings four contemporary photographers – Mark Klett and Byron Wolfe, Zig Jackson, and Martina Lopez – into conversation with the work of 19th-century landscape photographer William Henry Jackson. Through this lens, it examines the legacy of photography in relation to the development of the American West.
During the academic year, Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St., Delaware, is open to in-person visitors on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The museum is handicap-accessible and admission is always free.
