‘So Many Opportunities’

With more than 80 employers and representatives from graduate schools at this year’s Ohio Wesleyan Career and Graduate School Fair, the possibilities seemed endless.

“It’s overwhelming in a good way,” says Sarah Thomas ’15. “There are so many opportunities.”

Hosted by the Office of Career Services, the fair featured representatives from areas including retail, non-profits, accounting, and medical school.

“This is the largest fair we have had on campus,” says Leslie Melton, director of Career Services. “We are excited that people are excited about OWU students. It is a career and graduate school fair, with employers looking to hire students for full-time opportunities, part-time local jobs, and internships. There are also recruiters from schools recruiting candidates for their graduate programs. There is quite a range.”

Elise Baer ’17 says she’s glad she attended the event.

“I learned about a lot of things I didn’t know were available,” Baer says. “I enjoyed learning from others and what they do in their companies.”

That’s exactly what the office hoped would happen, says Ela Mazumder ’16, an intern with Career Services who helped to plan the September 25 event.

“It’s a really good experience for students to network and practice talking to employers,” Mazumder says.

And sometimes it’s even more than that, Melton notes.

“There have been lots of students who have gotten jobs and internships during the fair,” she says. “For the seniors, this is exposure to organizations looking to hire after graduation.”

In addition to hosting the fair, Career Services also provides many resources to help OWU students prepare life after graduation, including assistance with cover letters, essays, and resumes.

The office, located in Room 324 of Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, takes appointments and holds drop-in hours every day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stop by to find more opportunities!
