2026-2027 Education Fellows
Ohio Wesleyan Taps 11 First-Year Students, Future Teachers for Competitive Program
DELAWARE, Ohio – Ohio Wesleyan University has named 11 new students as 2026-2027 Education Fellows based on their high potential for success at the university and their interest in teaching at the preschool, elementary, middle, or high school level.
The university's newest Education Fellows and their academic interests are:
- Abbie Boey of Delaware, Ohio, who expects to study Inclusive Elementary Education.
- Maddy Brinkman of Delaware, Ohio, who expects to study Inclusive Elementary Education.
- Hannah Byes of Newark, Ohio, who expects to study Multi-Age Music/Theatre.
- Jacqueline Gouamba of Barberton, Ohio, who expects to study Adolescence to Young Adult English for Teachers.
- Carly Kelly of Mt. Sterling, Ohio, who expects to study Inclusive Elementary Education.
- Craig Matern of Kenilworth, Illinois, who expects to study Adolescence to Young Adult History for Educators or Special Education.
- Maddy McConnell of Roseville, Ohio, who expects to study Adolescence to Young Adult Integrated Science.
- Adison Postle of Troy, Ohio, who expects to study Inclusive Elementary Education.
- Addy Simpson of Galloway, Ohio, who expects to study Inclusive Elementary Education.
- Audrey Smith of Wakeman, Ohio, who expects to study Middle Childhood Math & Science.
- Chloe Wellington of Mason, Ohio, who expects to study Inclusive Elementary Education.
OWU's Department of Education awards the four-year fellowships annually. The fellows also are selected in recognition of having demonstrated both leadership in high school and a passion for making the world better by educating its future citizens.
The benefits of being named an Education Fellow include receiving an OWU scholarship, mentoring from both upper-level Education Fellows and professors, and an invitation to participate in forums, field trips, and other career-related events.
Ohio Wesleyan offers education majors in the following areas:
- Adolescence to Young Adult, to teach grades 7-12 in English, History, Science, or Mathematics.
- Educational Studies, for those interested in education-related careers but not in teaching,
- Elementary Education, to teach grades preK-5.
- Inclusive Elementary Education, to teach or work as an intervention specialist in grades preK-5.
- Integrated Science for Teachers, to teach grades 7-12.
- Middle Childhood, to teach grades 4-9.
- Multi-Age, to teach grades preK-12 in Fine Arts, Foreign Language, or Theatre.
- Special Education, to teach grades preK-12.
In addition, the university offers education minors in Educational Studies and in Multi-Age – Music.
