Over the summer, Stout interned with alumnus Bob Gordon ’88 to learn the ins and outs of being a real estate agent. Stout’s work at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices included helping to create digital marketing campaigns, host open houses, and engage with clients.

Lessons Learned

“Many days we would work in the office the first half of the day doing house closings (when Bob sold a listing), some digital marketing for Bob’s platforms, or writing contracts such as a buyer contract checklist. Then in the second half of the day, we would do an open house or preview properties that are about to go on the market to evaluate them. …

“I obtained valuable insight about the round-the-clock investment that being a successful and reputable agent requires. …

“I will be able to take the lessons and methods I learned from working with Bob such as public relations and digital marketing to my business courses this fall. They will help me succeed in the classroom tremendously.

“The experience will make me more purposeful in my classwork and in engaging positively with professors.”

Unique Opportunities

“I attended three digital marketing conferences in the Denver area with the allocated funds (from OWU’s Blaine E. Grimes Grant Program), most notably the Digital Summit Denver: Digital Marketing Conference.

“These high-profile events allowed me to gain a superior digital marketing skillset that was beneficial for me and that I could use to enhance Bob’s digital marketing campaigns across his many marketing platforms.”

Why I Chose Ohio Wesleyan

“Simply put, I chose OWU for the amazing academics, campus, soccer program, and people. I really felt at home when I visited OWU, and the energy on campus was contagious to me. That’s how I knew I wanted to be a Battling Bishop.”

My Plans After Graduation

“I plan to go home to Colorado to finish my qualifications to become a life and health insurance broker in the area as well as to coach kids in playing soccer so they can play at Ohio Wesleyan!”
