New in 2021, Ohio Wesleyan University is building a competitive Esports program!

About Esports at OWUOWU Esports

Esports is the world of competitive, organized video gaming. Competitors from different leagues or teams face off in the same games that are popular with at-home gamers. Internationally, esports athletes are watched by millions of fans who attend live events or tune in on TV or online. Streaming services like Twitch allow viewers to watch as their favorite teams compete in real-time.

Opportunities

Skill Development: Athletes will work with professional coaches and improve their skills.

Facilities: OWU is developing a high-tech esports arena in Welch Hall to be completed in 2022.

Premium Tournaments: Teams will scrimmage and compete against other varsity teams through the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE).

LAN Events: Local Area Network (LAN) events will be hosted on campus throughout the year. These events will be open to the community and may offer exciting prizes.

Social Media: Follow OWU Esports on Discord, YouTube, and Twitch.

The Program

OWU Esports will field teams across several different titles and compete at the national level. Students will be able to join multiple teams as their time permits and will be held to the same high standards as other OWU athletes.

OWU Esports athletes will compete through the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE), the foremost governing authority in collegiate esports today. NACE collaborates with varsity esports programs at over 200 schools to lay the groundwork in areas such as competition and scholarships, eligibility and path to graduation. The following esports are offered through NACE:

  • Apex Legends
  • Counter-Strike
  • FIFA 19
  • Fortnite
  • Hearthstone
  • League of Legends
  • Madden NFL 19
  • NBA 2K19
