Guest Policy

A currently enrolled Ohio Wesleyan University student may accompany two (2) guests into The 1842. There may be exceptions to this for special events and will be posted ahead of the event such as Alumni Weekend and Homecoming. The currently enrolled OWU student is responsible for the actions of themselves and those of their guest(s). Additionally, The OWU student is responsible for informing their guest(s) of the rules of the campus and the facility. The student must stay with their guest(s) while they are at the facility, and guests are required to leave once their OWU student has left the facility. Any staff member of The 1842 has the authority to ask a guest to leave. If the guest is not cooperative, the staff member will inform the General Manager and/or the Lead which can lead to the calling of Public Safety if the situation warrants.

ID Policy

Students and students' guests must present valid ID in order to receive a stamp that shows they have been verified to be of at least 21 years of age. ID that is acceptable are the following: Driver's License, State Identification Card, Military ID, or Permanent Resident Card. Passports may be accepted in special instances when approved by The General Manager. All forms of ID will be scanned as well as looked over by the Host on duty before giving a stamp to the individual confirming they are of at least 21 years of age.

Even if you may know the person is 21 years or older, they must present an ID to be able to receive a stamp to be allowed to consume alcohol. If the person does not have one of the forms of ID listed above, they will not be allowed to receive a stamp to consume alcohol.  The person may go back to their room to retrieve an ID if they would like to get a stamp and to consume alcohol.

If a Fake ID is found it will not be returned and will be reported.

Stamps

Hand stamps are to be given out to only the people who have presented authentic and valid identification that are verified to be 21 years of age or older. The stamp color will change each day. This means if an individual has yesterday's stamp still on their hand they will have to present identification to receive a stamp in the color of the present day's stamp. There will not be a pattern to what color ink will be used each day. The stamp is to be placed on the back center of the person's right hand.

Drink Limits

Only one (1) alcoholic beverage is to be sold to a patron per visit to the bar. If the patron has an alcoholic beverage already, a second alcoholic beverage can not be procured till the first one has been finished or thrown away. The drink limit per a visit to the bar is in place to cut down on over-consumption of alcohol and to help prevent the handing off of drinks to others who are underage. Should you witness drinks being handed off to patrons without a hand stamp, please contact the General Manager or Lead on duty.

Outside Beverages and Containers

Outside beverage containers containing any alcoholic beverage are not permitted in The 1842. Outside containers that hold soda, juice, and water are allowed. Refillable water bottles are allowed and there is a refill station in The 1842.

Food service staff will not fill outside containers with drinks from soda machines other than with ice or water.
