About

Alyssa VanHaitsma Kotva holds a Ph.D. in History from The Ohio State University. Her research and teaching focuses on the premodern Mediterranean and European world. In particular, she is interested in how people's beliefs and practices play out in and take shape through the material environment of the late Roman and early medieval Mediterranean, and her current work deals with Mediterranean islands. Her academic writing has appeared in H-Environment, Origins, and the Encyclopedia of Early Christianity.
