About

Jesse earned his Ph.D. in History from Syracuse University, where he specialized in late medieval and early modem Europe. He is an alumnus of OWU and the History Department. Jesse’s current research focuses on cross-cultural encounters between Christians and Muslims in the Mediterranean, particularly those involving exchanges of gifts. Prior to returning to OWU, he taught at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma and at Mercy College in New York City. Jesse has designed and taught courses on topics including the history of piracy, the globalization of the Mediterranean, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance. His hobbies include hiking, cooking, and travel.
