OWU and Mount Carmel College of Nursing partner to offer the Second Degree Accelerated Program (SDAP), a direct pathway to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree that fits your personal and career goals.
The SDAP is a direct pathway to Mount Carmel College of Nursing, one of central Ohio's top nursing programs.
THE SDAP allows you to earn an OWU Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in almost any field plus a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in as little as five years total.
The SDAP is an ideal option if you are interested in a nursing career and want an undergraduate experience that allows you to experience and engage with the OWU Connection, play varsity athletics, join fraternity and sorority life, or participate in any of the academic and residential campus opportunities available at Ohio Wesleyan. You will spend four years at OWU, then complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Mount Carmel College of Nursing (MCCN), one of central Ohio's premier nursing schools.
MCCN guarantees admission for a minimum of 15 qualifying participants a year in this OWU program.
Second Degree Accelerated Program (SDAP). Complete a 4-year B.A. or B.S. degree at OWU in the major(s) of your choice. After graduating from OWU, you enroll at Mount Carmel, where you can complete your BSN in either 13 or 18 months. MCCN's accelerated 13-month SDAP program begins in January and August, while the traditional 18-month program begins in August.
International students: Please note that Mount Carmel College of Nursing does not issue Immigration Form I-20 from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Therefore, MCCN is not eligible to accept new or transfer international students who need I-20 credentialing. MCCN welcomes international applicants who do not require I-20 clearance.
Ohio Wesleyan University is sunsetting its support for the Advanced Placement Program with Mount Carmel College of Nursing, effective immediately. We will no longer be accepting new students into this pathway and are focusing our nursing partnership efforts on the Second Degree Accelerated Program (SDAP).
Current first- and second-year OWU students who are already pursuing the APP pathway will continue to receive full support, guidance, and advising as they work toward transferring to Mount Carmel following their sophomore year. Undergraduate research, performed under the mentorship of expert faculty, is a central component of The OWU Connection.
A Theory-to-Practice Grant could fund your original research, internship, or creative project throughout the world. You can also apply for the Summer Scholarship and Research Program (SSRP), a 10-week intensive research program where students work closely with faculty and present their results at an all-campus Patricia Belt Conrades Summer Scholarship and Research Symposium in the fall.
OWU offers a variety of ways for you to expand your learning off campus - and around the world. In Travel-Learning Courses, you can journey to a distant land and learn how classroom theory truly connects with real-world experience. Some recent Travel-Learning Courses have taken students to Italy for studies of obesity, food philosophies, and traditions - and to East Africa to study biology.
You also can study overseas for a full semester, including OWU's Spanish immersion program in Pamplona, Spain.
At OWU, you connect the classroom and the real world. OWU students have participated in internships at medical centers such as the Mayo Clinic and Nationwide Children's Hospital and at research universities. Others have completed internships with health and exercise centers, the Cooking Matters program, the Delaware Public Health District, and other public health agencies.

The OWU Women in Science (WinS) organization is a collection of students who share a passion for mathematics and the natural and social sciences. WinS strives to cultivate a love of science and research and provide information about research opportunities, graduate school positions, and summer jobs and internships. WinS promotes discussion of issues facing women in science, brings guest lecturers to campus, arranges field trips, and participates in community service.
Top-of-the-line instrumentation exists throughout the Schimmel/Conrades Science Center, including a scanning transmission electron microscope, enabling you to carry out research that's often impossible at other liberal arts colleges. The Simpson Querrey Fitness Center includes classroom and lab space for Health & Human Kinetics students.
The Pre-Health Club helps students understand and overcome the challenges of entering medical school to make the preparation more manageable. They also help educate the public about illnesses, preventative measure to take to remain healthy, and how to perform self-exams.
OWU offers more than 70 majors, providing options to combine your BSN with an OWU degree to match your interests and expand your career options. Enhance your BSN with a degree in Spanish, Exercise Science, Psychology, Sociology, Communication, Women's & Gender Studies, Zoology, or dozens of other majors and minors.
Kat Zimmerly graduated from OWU in 2011 with a degree in sociology. She then completed MCCN's 13-month accelerated BSN program. Today, she is the Bariatric Nurse Navigator for Mount Carmel Health System.
