Palmer Center for First-Generation Student Success
On Oct. 3, 2025, Ohio Wesleyan announced a $5 million gift from Thomas and Susan Palmer to establish the Palmer Center for First-Generation Student Success and to support the renovation of the John F. Milligan Library, which will house the new center. The Palmer Center will expand the university's Bishop Elevate office and program, launched in 2023, to support students who are the first in their families to attend college.

Bishop Elevate Mission
Our mission is to empower and support first-generation students on their journey to academic excellence, personal growth, and professional success. Bishop Elevate provides tailored programs and experiences that promote academic excellence and the development of essential life skills. We recognize the unique strengths and aspirations of first-generation college students and their ability to transcend barriers and defy expectations.
Through collaborative partnerships with faculty, staff, and stakeholders, we aim to create a supportive network that fosters a sense of belonging and empowerment for first-generation students. Together, we cultivate a vibrant and inclusive community that values the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of first-generation students, encouraging them to embrace their identity, build confidence, and become leaders in their chosen fields. Navigating higher education can be complex, and we are here to demystify the college experience. We are dedicated to equipping first-generation students with the tools and skills needed to achieve their full potential and thrive in their academic pursuits and beyond.
