All new international students must meet at least one option below to demonstrate sufficient English language ability to study at Ohio Wesleyan University.

The University reserves the right to require additional English language instruction, if needed, upon arrival.  You may self-report the scores but we will require official ones at the enrollment stage.

  1. TOEFL Paper-based exam: A minimum score of 550.
  2. TOEFL Internet Based exam (iBT):  A minimum score of 79.  
  3. SAT
    A minimum score of 500 on the evidence-based reading and writing score of the SAT I. 
  4. IELTS
    A minimum score of 6.5. You can email the Test Report Form Number at the bottom of the form instead of sending an official report directly from IELTS.
  5. English3 – A minimum score of 67.
  6. Duolingo - A minimum score of 105.
  7. iTEP - minimum score of 3.8
  8. English speaking country
    If an applicant is originally from an English speaking country listed below and the primary language of instruction is English.
  9. English as a second Language
    Applicants for whom English is a second language but have attended a secondary school in an English speaking country listed below for at least two years.
  10. IB Programs/O or A Levels/Other External Exams
    Applicants who have completed or are pursuing a full IB diploma in English or have received at least a 5 in the English exam can receive the English proficiency waiver.  Also, for applicants who have taken or are studying for O or A Level exams, we will also waive the English proficiency requirement.  We will review other External Exam results (such as the SSC or HSC) on a case by case basis. 
  11. Skype/Telephone Interview with Director of International Admission
    If you are from one of the Interview countries listed below, we may waive the English proficiency based on an Interview and a letter from your school stating that the curriculum was completed only in English.  Please contact us at for a video interview.  

Students who have a lower level of English proficiency will still be evaluated but they will be required to attend one of our English support classes their first semester on campus.
