New Student Move-In Overview
New Student Move-In Day is Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. All students will check in and pick up their room keys in the Benes Rooms of the Hamilton-Williams Campus Center before going to their hall to unload vehicles.
Your first day on campus is so much more than just moving in! Check out our Move-In Day Schedule of Events.
New Student Check-In
All students will check in and pick up their room and mailbox keys in the Benes Rooms of Hamilton-Williams Campus Center during their move-in time. Students will also check in for Orientation in the same location. Students who have not completed their Financial Aid verification or set up a payment plan with the Student Accounts office will not be able to check in to the residence halls. Financial Aid and the Student Accounts office will be at new student check-in so students can complete the necessary steps and check in. All students will need a photo ID to complete the check-in process.
Sign Up for a Move-In Time
Students will need to log in to their Res Life Portal and navigate to the "Assignments" section on the main page to sign up for a move-in time. Because we are trying to make the move-in process as stress-free as possible, we are asking students to sign up for a move-in time to prevent everyone from arriving at the same time, which will cause congestion. All students will have the time they need to get settled into their new space regardless of move-in time. Only students who have completed their housing application will be able to select a move-in time.
Early Arrival Check-In
Some groups of students arrive on campus early (i.e. fall athletes, marching band, etc). Early arrival groups will learn of their move in date and time from their group leader (i.e. coach, director, etc). All early arrival check-in processes will take place in the Atrium of Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, or in the Residential Life office (HWCC 213).
Directions to New Student Check-In & Parking
Please review this map to help you locate where the check-in process will occur for all early arrival groups (athletes, marching band, etc), and the general move-in date of August 15.
Loft Kit Requests
The University has kits that make it possible for students to either bunk two beds together or to loft a single bed high enough to place something like a futon underneath it. Some students like using these because it can create additional storage space in the room. Other students like to keep their beds on the bed ends already in the room, which allows them to raise or lower their bed frame several feet off the ground (high enough to place a dresser underneath it) without the use of a kit. There is a $100 rental fee to use loft kits, which includes the proper installation of the loft and it's removal when you move out. The rental fee will be applied to your university bill. Students who request a loft by August 2 will have a loft installed in their room prior to August 15. Any requests on August 3 or later will likely get a loft, but their loft may be installed shortly after August 15. This rental fee is non-refundable once a loft has been set up for you in your room.
If you would like to request a loft kit or a bunk kit, please complete the Fall 2024 Loft & Bunk Kit Request form by August 2, 2024.
Packing for College
We also encourage you to review the What to Bring to College list and use it as a place to start in packing for your transition to OWU. While it's not inclusive of everything you may need or want to bring with you, it offers some ideas we know students appreciate having.
