About

Sam Mitchell is a part-time instructor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. Her research interests include stratification and inequality, gender and partnering intentions, higher education, academic fraud, first-generation college students, student assessment and instructional design, and credentialism.

Sam is passionate about teaching, instructional design, and student assessment. Currently, she is working on a project on alternate assessment in sociology courses. She also serves as a graduate consultant at the Drake Institute for Teaching at Learning at the Ohio State University. In Spring of 2023, Sam was awarded the Graduate Associate Teaching Award, which recognizes exceptional teaching from graduate student instructors and is one of the most competitive awards at Ohio State.

Outside of teaching and research, Sam is an artist who enjoys taking art classes at the Columbus Cultural Arts Center. She has illustrated works for publications like the New Ohio Review.
