List of Department Chairs

The link below provides a list of department chairs as well as directors of academic programs.

Chair Responsibilities

The Department Chairperson is an essential and significant member of University administration who provides leadership for the department to foster a climate of respect and interaction both within and among departments such that student learning, faculty development, and programmatic success are fostered and encouraged. Department chairs have responsibilities related to leadership, students, curriculum, budgeting, operations, and personnel. A complete list of duties and responsibilities can be found in the job description linked below.

Chair Compensation

Academic department chairs are given the choice of one full-unit of course reassignment or a $3,000 stipend for one full-year of service as department chair. Those serving one semester as chair may select a $1,500 stipend or one-half unit of course reassignment if their schedule allows. Half units of course reassignment for serving as chair may be combined with a half unit of workload credit to achieve a full-unit of release for a semester of service. Course reassignments for serving as department chair may not be "banked" as workload credits.

Program Director Compensation

Directors of Academic Programs are typically compensated with a stipend between $500 and $3,000 depending on the size, complexity, and strategic alignment of the program. The compensation for serving as an academic program director is worked out at the time the offer is made. Academic Program Directors are not generally provided with the option of a course reassignment.
