Finding a Community Provider

Depending on your specific preferences and presenting concerns, OWU Counseling Services can provide you with referrals to off-campus treatment providers. There are several options located within Delaware, and many more in surrounding areas. These providers can also be found on databases such as Psychology Today, through online searches, and by contacting your insurance company. If needed, we are happy to assist with this process. 

When contacting a provider, there are several questions you should consider asking to make sure they are the right fit for you:

• Do you provide Teletherapy?
• Do you have a waitlist at this time?
• Could you describe your helping approach?
• What days and times are you currently available?
• Will you accept my insurance coverage? (know this ahead of time)
• Will you directly bill my insurance company?
• What are your fees? (Some providers do not accept insurance and are all self-pay.)
• Do you have any student discount fees?
• Do you have a sliding fee scale?
• Do I have to pay "up front" for services?
• Do you have a payment plan?
• What are your limitations on length of treatment?
• Where is your office located? Are you on a bus-line (which bus)? (Only for in person requests)

If you are attempting to make contact with a community provider, or are referred to a community provider from Counseling Services staff, and have any issues getting connected (difficulty finding availability, changes in insurance, cost of therapy is too high, etc.) please call Counseling Services staff at 740-368-3145 so that we may assist you in getting set up with counseling.  We want to be able to ensure your needs are met at this time. Our office also maintains an updated referral list of community providers that we are happy to share with you.
