Information Services offers various opportunities for technical training on the systems we use. See below for current offerings, including schedule and registration information.
Remote Training Available
Our Instructional Technologist, David Soliday, is still offering customized individual and group training sessions upon request. They'll just happen via online web-conference during OWU's response to COVID-19.
Improve your Blackboard Learn and Collaborate skills!
Information Services has created three online courses for learning Blackboard Learn (our LMS) and Collaborate, (their web conferencing platform.) The content has been provided by Blackboard. All OWU faculty and staff may self-enroll and study at their own pace, or use it as a handy reference resource.
You'll first need to log into OWU Blackboard. Then, follow any of the links below.

Take an online summer training course
These self-paced online summer courses are in Blackboard, and they’re both platform agnostic. Faculty and staff may self-enroll in either or both of them using the links below.
Getting Started with Online Course Design: This course introduces participants to best practices for online course design, and it provides an Online Course Planning Document to use while planning and designing online courses. A course facilitator will review submitted design documents and provide feedback to course participants. This course focuses on course design and is not platform-specific; therefore, it is relevant to all users, no matter the system participants plan to use for delivering courses.
Self-enroll in the online design course.*
Getting Started with Online Course Facilitation: Learn how to effectively facilitate in an online or blended classroom. This course focuses on building facilitation skills in four areas: technical, managerial, social, and pedagogical. This course also covers the skillset required of an effective online facilitator; learning styles and teaching strategies to address them; effective communication in a primarily text-based medium; interactive course components and various instructional strategies; management and organization in the online classroom; and assessment and feedback strategies.
Self-enroll in the online facilitation course.*
Each course is designed to take approximately 8–10 hours to complete, while allowing you to work in a self-paced environment. Facilitated by Instructional Technologist David Soliday and Public Services Librarian Liz Lang, they will be wrapping up by the end of July.
*You must first be logged into OWU Blackboard.
